Lili Teal, Reporter

Senior Lili Teal is a new reporter of the Courier staff. She is interested in arts and entertainment journalism. Teal is involved in color guard in marching band and the indoor winter guard, as well as choir.  In her free time she enjoys studying fashion, psychology and sketching.  Teal is always interested in finding new music and artists.  She is excited to bring her ideas to the table this year.

Wilt’s days are “usually busy from the start” as she lays out her notes for both the courses she teaches. She teaches tenth grade English as well as AP English for twelfth grade.

Wilt writes endless notes for her classes. This is an annotated poem used in her AP English course.

Wilt always greets her classes at the door with a smile. Seniors Rachael Scott and Mei Tomko are in her period 9 AP English. “She always talks to me,” Scott said. “She’s always so upbeat; it makes me happy.”

During the day, Wilt makes happy conversation with students who had her as a teacher, like junior Lance McCrum who had her for English last year.

Wilt also collaborates with her fellow English teacher, Mrs. Erica Littleton. Wilt and Littleton work together to pave the path to AP English by creating assignments that give the foundation for college-level classes.

Yamfest is a traditional celebration during the harvest of the yam that’s part of the Igbo culture in Chinua Achebe’s novel "Things Fall Apart." Wilt hosts an annual Yamfest that brings in creative projects to honor the unit based on the novel. “It is cool to see creativity being used in the high school” Wilt says. “Things here are so content heavy that we all lose a bit of the creativity.”

Wilt is the adviser for the National Honor Society. She goes through 100 or more applications to seek the newest inductees each year. Seen here is the stack of completed applications for the 2018-19 school year. She usually works on National Honor Society items during her planning period or in the morning when she arrives.

During her planning period, Wilt will do any grading or paperwork she needs to get done. She also makes copies of worksheets for her classes.

Our school librarian, Mrs. Kayse Corrieri, chats with Wilt during the day, and it’s about all kinds of things, not just school.

Second period, tenth grade English, learned about a chapter from Harper Lee’s "To Kill a Mockingbird." Wilt likes to stay in touch with in her students as they work. Senior Rachael Scott said, “She always walks around the room, answering questions and explaining ideas."

Wilt says that collaboration is an important part of learning. Seniors Mozi Aroworowon and Alexis Bobby work together on the poetry unit in one of Wilt’s AP English classes.
