On April 23, students from the high school’s EMT class participated in a training exercise with local firefighters and EMS crews to get hands on training for how to handle a car crash and patient extraction scenario.
Glen Rock firefighter Scotty Bowman explaining to the students what they should be communicating to patients in the vehicle of a serious crash.
“It’s very important for the student to understand and listen to the extraction crew,” Bowman said. “They’re our eyes, ears and voice in the vehicle with the patient. If they understand they can explain to the patient and help keep them calm. As the patient care person in the car they can see and hear things we can not and can tell us to stop should something go wrong.” Photograph by Peyton Elmore
