English teacher Tamara Kelley has worked at Susquehannock high school for 30 years as an outstanding member of the English department and sadly has decided to retire after this year.
All four teachers there in the tower have been able to become good friends and will miss her dearly.
English teacher Erica Littleton had put pictures of Bruce Springsteen, Kelly’s favorite singer, all over her door as a surprise to brighten up her day.
“She sets a high standard for what it means to be a teacher,” Littleton said. “We look to her as a role model and want to be like her.”
After Kelley retires this year, she plans to relax and make take up some time as a tutor, continuing her love for teaching.
“I always liked reading and wanted to share that with others,” Kelley said. “Initially, I was young, and it was a job opening, but I came to enjoy it because of the people here.”
Kelley has enjoyed her time here at Susquehannock very much. She has loved all her students, all the teachers and everyone else at this school. What Mrs. Kelley will miss most about this school is the caring people who come here everyday, making her time as a teacher even more enjoyable.
When asked what her goals were as a teacher, she said she only wanted “To do my best to teach the students and to make it interesting.”
Many students she had during her time at Susquehannock have enjoyed having her as a teacher and regard her as one of the best.
Senior Megan Burns had Kelley in the past and still remembers how well she taught her class. “She did a really good job relating what she taught to teenagers, which is impressive because she’s older,” said Burns.
“They [students] always know that she truly cares and that she is trying her very best,” said Littleton. “She always gives good advice, You don’t even have to ask- she can tell when you’re having a hard time. One time she saw I had a lot to do and so she took one of my duties for me so I could have more time. She just makes my life better.”
During her time here, Kelley has become a great contributor to the education system at Susquehannock high school and will be greatly missed by all her peers- teachers and students.
