With thoughts of college next year, many students are looking for ways to get money and the Dollars for Scholars program is a great way to apply for 65 scholarships by only filling out one application.
Senior Matthew Reynolds hopes to receive one of these scholarships.
“I hope I get one of the scholarships,” said Reynolds. “After looking at all the scholarships that are offered it looks like there is at least one scholarship out there for everyone.”
Seniors can apply to Dollars for Scholars up until February 14. In order to apply click here and, go to the students and parents tab on the right side of the page. Some scholarships may require parents or references to log into the system and complete sections of the application. A list of some of the scholarships available this year are located in the scholarship booklet.
Senior Megan Harman applied to Dollars for Scholars and thinks the process was easy.
“The whole application took me around an hour,” said Harman. “I like how you only have to do one application for multiple scholarships. I’ve applied to other scholarships, and you have to fill out an application for each one, and it take so much more time.”
Guidance office clerk Shelly Stoley expresses why she thinks it is important for seniors to apply for scholarships.
“Scholarships help reduce the cost of college and help students not have to take out big loans,” said Stoley. “The guidance office has a scholarship bulletin every month, and we try to make students aware of all the scholarships that are out there to help them.”
Outside of the Dollars for Scholars program students may also apply for scholarships through the York County Community Foundation. These scholarships are open to all seniors in York county, but some are guaranteed to be given to Susquehannock students. A separate application is required and can be found in the guidance office.
Seniors may also be matched up to other scholarships outside of the Susquehannock Dollars for Scholars program. Last year 150 scholarships were given to seniors through this program.
There are many scholarships available for the Class of 2014, and the guidance office is there to help throughout the scholarship process.
