Susquehannock celebrated English teacher Erica Littleton’s return after a 6 week sick leave on Thursday, October 28.
Littleton has been teaching at Susquehannock for 13 years and was recently diagnosed with salivary cancer. Like a true warrior, Littleton overcame this challenge.
“The cells were eradicated though radiation, and I am now cancer free,” said Littleton.
During Littleton’s absence, substitute teacher Cindy Pergrin picked up right where Littleton had left off and made sure everything was ready for her return.
Senior Austin Scott worked alongside Pergrin to make sure Littleton’s return would be an easy one.
“We really wanted her to not have to stress out about things when she returned,” said Scott. “She stayed in touch with Littleton every day about what was going on and where the class was at. We really tried to make sure everything was in order and ready to go for when she was better.”
In order to show support for Littleton on the day of her return, the school wore red and white. Also many warrior notes, written on red pieces of paper with a warrior head, were written by students as personal letters to Littleton.
Spanish teacher, and best friend to Littleton, Heather Walker made a sign on poster board that many students and teachers signed that was hung by her room upon her return.
“I made the big sign that said ‘We missed you Mrs. Littleton,’ warrior notes and organized with the student council and Dr. Bryson to get everyone to wear red,” said Walker. “I hope our efforts made her feel loved and appreciated and made it easier for her to come into work when she isn’t feel well.”
With all of the efforts from the school to show support for Littleton it made this hard time much more bearable.
“I felt overwhelmed and emotional when I saw how much everyone cared,” said Littleton. “The support made it easier for me to come back into my school life. I had no idea any of this was going on before I came back, and I was so surprised.”
