Aevidum will participate in Prevent Suicide PA’s public service announcement contest aimed at creating posters and videos to raise awareness of suicide ideation and prevention.
This contest will take online submissions and is due Dec. 20. The winners will be declared in early March of 2025. .
The contest aims to project messages of hope and to address those seeking help, according to counselor Matthew Shervington.
“The PSA contest is a contest that is put out each year by suicide prevention Pennslyvania in conjunction with middle schools and high schools around the state,” Shervington said. “It is to develop short PSA announcement videos about suicide ideation. So far our main thing has been grouping students based on their talents.”
Any students who participate in this contest could benefit from it.
“I believe that it can continue to generate conversation about mental health, more specifically suicidal awareness, and prevention, and help students learn about Safe to Say,” Shervington said. “The students have been preparing to achieve victory in this contest by studying and creating their PSA about suicidal ideation with their groups.”
Although it is a contest, Shervington is not worried about the winners. He is more focused on the topic of suicidal ideation and helping his students.
“I think it is pretty cool how all of the schools come together and focus on suicidal awareness and prevention,” Shervington said.
Looking forward, Shervington and his students will bring awareness to the warning signs of suicide.
