Due to the recent events within the Facebook franchise, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has had to answer about the social media platform’s privacy issues, and many people now wonder how they can protect their privacy online and in their social media accounts.

Here are a few tips:

  1. Protect the messages you send; make sure that all of your privacy settings are constantly checked, and try not to send anything if you see something odd, such as a random notification that blocks your screen.
  2. Make sure your software is up to date. By keeping your software up to date, you lessen the probability of someone getting into your information or personal messages.
  3. Use basic privacy tricks. For example, when there is a link provided by a business on your email, do not click it. Many people have fallen for this, and it can set off many viruses.
  4. Be smart with your Wi-Fi;  always check your privacy setting when connected to any public Wi-Fi service.
  5. Use unique passwords and usernames.
