The AP human geo class got to experience a new way of learning in York on April 26. Students gained more knowledge about their class and experience a whole new world of learning from a field trip.

Students had the opportunity to learn about how industries grow and work from several workers up in York. During the trip, the students got to visit Perrydell Farm and even took a trip to the Agricultural and Industrial Museum.

Junior Zach Robinson enjoyed visiting Perrydell Farm and learned about how York has evolved over the years.

“The point of the field trip was for us to get a real-world application of what we were learning,” said Robinson. “We went to Perrydell Farm and saw how a family business was competing against other huge businesses. Then we walked through the city of York and the museum to see how things have progressed over time and how people ended up where they are.”

Most of the students on the trip enjoyed visiting Perrydell Farm. The farm is a family-owned business that majors around working with cows and producing milk.

Junior Sharon Nelson loved visiting Perrydell Farm to see the cows.

“My favorite part was when we went to Perrydell Farm where there were baby cows we got to pet,” said Nelson.

As much as the field trip was exciting to the students, there were some parts of the trip that were long and slow.

“The museum part was not the best. It was kind of boring for a high schooler because it wasn’t connecting with us,” said Robinson. “I also heard a lot of people didn’t like the water guy… but I thought he was passionate. He took the time out of his day to talk with us.”

Junior Dana Harpster thought that visiting Downtown York was an interesting part of the field trip.

“We walked around Downtown York for a little bit and went to the industrial museum… I didn’t like all the walking, and it almost rained,” said Harpster. “I learned about how Downtown York isn’t as scary as people make it out to be.”

By the end of the day, the AP students had some great experiences with these businesses and learned how York came to be throughout the years.
