While the boys and girls track team cannot win the division this year, they still have a lot to look forward to in the post season and next season.
The boys and girls have both won five meets and lost one, the boys falling to Dover in their last meet 94-56. With this loss, the boys now are unable to win the division. The girls lost earlier this season against York Suburban.
The track team has just one meet left at Eastern, Monday, May 5th.
Senior Zach Holloway is happy where his team stands so far this season. “We have a lot of well rounded athletes,” said Holloway. “We don’t really have any standout athletes. Everybody on the team just plays their part.”
On the boys team, the top scorers have been seniors Zach Holloway, Zach Shelly, and Junior Tyler Buckley.
The girl’s team is beginning to look ahead to the post season.
Sophomore Brianna Fitzgerald knows that not all is lost just because they can’t win the division. “This season has been difficult,” said Fitzgerald. “We really need to start focusing on Counties.”
Senior Jenni Ferg has tried to remain optimistic about the season. “The season has gone pretty well,” said Ferg. “The coaches are great and really supportive; we have a lot of natural talent.”
Next year, the track team will be losing quite a few standout seniors: Alesha Herman, Destiny Hatcher, Abby Barnhart, Jessica Perez, Julian Hernandez, Zach Shelly, Zach Holloway, Jake Thomas. There are plenty of young athletes that will be able to help the team next year. With sophomores such as Emily Houska, Kayla Bennett, Rachel Banchiere, Myles Moultrie, Jason Gayle, junior Tyler Buckley, and even freshman Sam Steines, they are sure to bring talent to the according to jumping coach JC Lewis.
Hopefully the track team can get the ball rolling to end the season on a strong point and keep the momentum as they prepare for Counties.
