With spring quickly approaching, it is hard not to think about the new fashion trends emerging; this season’s new patterns and flashback styles such as overalls, are making a comeback.
Lines such as DKNY, Forever XXI, Bullhead Denim Co, Kendall and Kylie, and even Hollister are bringing back the hot 90’s trends, making the oldies look new. My personal favorite are the Forever XXI’s overalls because the store makes them look less like they are worn to work on the farm and more like they are going to enjoy a fun spring day.
Another popular trend for the spring are crop tops. Although they existed in the 90s, just like overalls, they first appeared in the 1940s. In the past time, the tops were loose, not flattering, and looked quite awkward. But with their comeback in 2011, when Phillip Lim and Opening Ceremony showed it on the runway, they looked quite different from before. The real comeback, however, was in 2012 when Dolce and Gabbana, Preen, and Prada introduced the top in their spring 2012 collections. It’s hard to walk into a store today and not find a crop top hanging somewhere.
Just like the temperatures, Fringe bags or purses are coming in hot this season. Lines like Calvin Klein, Gucci, and Valentino are carrying the popular bags; however, they are not affordable for the average middle class family. Something more budget friendly can be found at places like Express for much cheaper.
Florals have always been somewhat popular; this spring they are sure to be seen on almost everybody. Popular places such as Forever XXI, American Eagle, Pacsun, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and even Free People are carrying the ‘old new’ pattern this spring.
Floral patterns are not the only item that have been somewhat popular for a while; the high-waisted pants have been around on and off since the 1940s.
High waisted jeans and shorts can also be found at places such as Charlotte Russe, Delias, Forever XXI, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, and Love Culture and are pretty cheap at most places, starting at $29.95.
If a bold top is needed to wear with high-waisted bottoms, one could try a pastel top color like light purples, baby blues, and mint greens. Lines such as DKNY, Alexander Wang, and Davies + Starr will be in stores in the next few months.
The trends for this upcoming spring are all a bit retro, but bring on an interesting change nobody would have ever seen coming.
