Weird Al is an American Hawiian shirt loving actor, writer and comedy musician who is famous for his comedic songs that parody musicians and for also being very incredibly, dangerously weird.

As Weird Al Yankovic goes on his latest tour, fans are eager to see what surprises the oddball has in store. For many fans his live shows are a mix of nostalgia and humor. The hype around his performance is nearly tangible, with long time fans ready to see which of his songs he’ll bring to the stage next.

Junior Gabe Wede is excited about the possibility of hearing one of Weird Al’s more iconic tracks.

“I hope he plays ‘Amish Paradise,’” Wede said. “A lot of my ancestors are very Amish, and like, I go over there to churn butter once or twice when living in their Amish paradise.”

For fans like Wede, the song “Amish Paradise” is a link to their own family traditions.

“I think I’ve been a Weird Al fan since I was in the womb because, my mom, she would like to put the headphones around her stomach and play Weird Al all the time,” Wede said.

Weird Al’s fan base spans across generations and his appeal is undeniable, according to electronic arts teacher Wade Bowers.

“Nobody really does what he does,” Bowers said. “He’s kind of like the golden child of parody.”

Bowers also admires the diversity of Weird Al’s genre span.

“Nobody does it like him,” Bowers said. “He obviously does not stray away from any type of genre, whether it’s hip hop, rap, or obviously classic rock.”

While his music is certainly his big seller, Bowers is also excited about the

“Maybe his show is [going to] be bigger as in less of just singing and more of a performance along with the singing,” Bowers said.

And when it comes to Weird Al’s stage performance, Wede has high expectations, and if Wede had his way, the possibilities would be out of this world.

“I wish he would take his accordion to space, take us all to space, and we’ll all watch his concert in space,” Wede said. After all, with an artist like Weird Al, anything seems possible.

The physical comedy of a Weird Al show is also a huge part of the experience, noted by senior Henry Debeaumont.

“I would like to see Weird Al throw around rubber chickens into the crowd,” Debeaumont said.

As his fanbase continues to expand across ages and musical tastes, there is no question that Weird Al remains a unique odd force in the music world. His ability to go beyond genres and continue to surprise fans makes sure that his concerts will continue to captivate fans for years to come.

“I think Weird Al is Mozart,” Wede said, comparing ‘The Golden Child’s’ genius to a classical master.

For those lucky enough to attend his upcoming tour, one thing is for sure, Weird Al’s tour is not just a concert, but an experience that combines humor, nostalgia, musical innovation and most importantly, The Odd! The Unique! THE ONE OF A KIND! The Weird!

Weird AL hits Philadelphia’s TD Pavilion at the Mann on July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $81.90 each for uncovered lawn seats. Remaining pit sits are close to $500 each.
