The 2013 Washington DC HOT 99.5 Jingle Ball took place on Monday, December 16 at the Verizon Center at 7:00 p.m.
The Jingle Ball included 9 artists and starred the HOT 99.5 staff who performed comedy in between acts. This year’s lineup was Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Austin Mahone, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Enrique Iglesias, Flo Rida, Jason Derulo, and Fifth Harmony.
Tickets for the concert ranged from $84.17 – $1121.10, and the stadium was packed with an estimated 16,000 fans. With the high price of tickets it was nice to know that $1.00 from the purchase of each ticket was donated to the Ryan Seacrest foundation.
The concert seemed to be very organized, put together, and ran very smoothly. Beginning right on time and minimizing the time in between acts allowed the concert to also end at a reasonable time. The HOT 99.5 staff kept the audience from getting bored and allowed the time to pass quickly in between acts by performing comedy.
As for the performers, they all did a great job interacting with the audience by bringing people on stage or actually going out into the crowd. There was a good mix of artists to please everyone, and it was impossible not to enjoy at least one of the performances. Each artist performed for around 25 minutes.
Standing out the most in the concert was Miley Cyrus, Paramore, Flo Rida and Austin Mahone.
Miley Cyrus was the last act to perform of the night, and she did a fantastic job of closing everything out and making the night an unforgettable one. She was dressed all in white with a big white fur coat and a white Channel fanny pack. On stage with her were 3 back up dancers, a dancing Christmas tree, a dwarf, and a provocative Santa. She sang songs from her new album Bangers such as “Adore You” and “Wrecking Ball,” as well as some of her older music including “Party in the USA.”
Paramore was very interactant with the audience and brought two fans on stage to help sing the chorus of the “Misery Buisness.” They also performed two of their most popular songs, “The Only Exception” and “Still Into You.” The entire stadium was lit up with cellphone lights as Paramore sang “The Only Exception,” which could be widely considered the most heartfelt moment of the night.
Flo Rida was one of the few artists who actually came off stage and walked around during his performance. He was very energetic and enthusiastic, which of course rubbed off on the audience. Flo Rida performed “Whistle,” “Good Feeling” and “Low.” During “Low,” he brought up a huge group of girls to get low with him as he showed off his apple-bottom jeans. Somehow he found a fan to give him a piggy-back ride around the stadium while he sung, shook hands, and took selfies with fans.
The crowd roared as Austin Mahone took the stage. At 17 he was the youngest performer of the night. His fans, called “Mahonies,” definitely showed up to DC to show their love for him. He played a cover of Mario Lopez’s “Let Me Love You” and went out to his song “Banga Banga.” During his performance, he showed off his hip-hop dance moves that had the crowd in awe.
Overall the concert was well put together and was worth the high ticket price. After seeing the 2013 Jingle Ball, it seems as if the 2014 Jingle Ball can only get better from here.
