Breaking the Stigma: Aevidum Hosts First Spirit Week

Aevidum hosted its first set of mental health-themed spirit days on March 16-20.

This spirit week is aimed at highlighting different coping skills. These days included themes such as “Hidden or Highlight,” “Mental Health Awareness,” “My ‘go-to,’” “Better Together” and “Feel-good Friday.” Aevidum is trying to get more people involved by offering prizes, such as gift cards to Chick-fil-A, to those who have the best outfits.

Aevidum has provided these days as an outlet to students in need, giving them the opportunity to reach out, as the current treasure of Aevidum Mollie Boehm has related.

“We’ve created these spirit days to not only spread awareness, but reach students that may be struggling,” Boehm said. “While it may be simple, I truly believe that the school participating in our spirit days can start to help break the stigma around mental health at Susky.”

Aevidum spirit days mean a lot to the club, and they plan to do more, according to long-time Aevidum member Jack Bankert.

“Aevidum hopes to continue doing spirit days in the future to keep spreading awareness and building a school community” Bankert said.

Aevidum members like freshman Ariana Barlos were excited to host its first ever spirit week and to show off the purpose of these days.

“Aevidum is excited to finally host a spirit week, and we hope that everyone is able to participate,” Barlos said. “…at the end of the day, Aevidum’s main goal with this spirit week and every event is to spread the message of ‘I’ve got your back.”

Aevidum wants everyone to know that if you’re ever struggling, someone in Aevidum is there to listen, and they hope that this spirit week shows this. They want everyone to come together, participate in these spirit days and make the school a better place for students, where mental health is something you can talk about.
