Halls filled with music, a director waving his baton, voices perfectly in time and pitched perfectly.
Over the past two weeks, sophomore Lie Schanberger traveled to Providence, R.I., for the Eastern Region American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Honor Choir festival. This event lasted three days and was filled with singing and different choirs from across the East Coast.

Schanberger was the only singer from Susquehannock who went to the festival, and choral director Jay Althouse supported Schanberger throughout her journey.
“They sent the evaluation of what to do, and I practiced the songs with her every now and then,” Althouse said. “She chose to learn it on her own and record it, and I just sent it to the company that hosts the festival. They then review the videos and send the results back to us.”
Schanberger’s trip was an “8 hour trip back and forth from Providence,” Schanberger said.

“Leading up to the actual festival, we had 4 rehearsals, we were singing from like 8 to 12 hours a day, and the results of our rehearsal did not disappoint, overall the trip was really fun and the outcome of our rehearsals really paid off.” Schanberger said. “ACDA meant the world to me not only because it was my first ever choir festival (let alone it being All Eastern) but also because of the work ethic and the people I met there. I loved being surrounded by people who take choir seriously and are truly dedicated to their work.”
Schanberger also participates in more than singing activities outside of the choir.
“I take part in the jazz band and Stewartstown Summer Theatre,” Schanberger said. “I also do a lot of stuff in susquehannock’s Theatre Department, like the plays, and I also play in the pit for the musicals. I also help mic up people in theatre because I did sound for the one-act.
I’m in the York youth symphony orchestra,… vocal ensemble, select strings,[and] I’m helping out in band soon with piano.”

Schanberger is involved in clubs and outside activities beyond singing.
“I managed for swimming and for boys’ tennis,” Schanberger said. “I played girls tennis…and I even have my own business.”
