Students Level up with Gaming Club

Those who love gaming and having fun with friends should consider gaming club.

The gaming club meets in the library weekly on Mondays during homeroom. Students can bring electronic gaming devices, play chess, board games or card games.

Members need to sign a permission slip to participate and can store gaming consoles in the library, with the understanding that the school is not responsible for broken or lost items.

Junior Ian Lilley enjoys the fun environment that gaming club provides.

“Gaming Club is to get people together to play any type of games and to bring people together to have fun,” Lilley said.

Head librarian Kate Daniels sees the group sharing common personality traits, as well as gaming interests.

“Our president Cameron did a really great job of setting expectations for students, so that more students could learn about different games and get involved,” Daniels said. “There have been some new additions to gaming and that has been a great success.”

Senior Cameron Irvin notes how the group has grown and has created more fun opportunities to play.

“We definitely had a lot more involved, games suggestions… have theme week…for people to get involved in the club,” Irvin said.

The gaming club has expanded how they organize and plan what games to play. The group has poll questions each week to determine each meeting’s game focus. Past weeks’ game focuses include chess, UNO, checkers, Wii games, and board games, according to Daniels.

Every year, the gaming club has had some struggles involving members observing instead of playing games.

“There was some people in club that did not play games and [were] just there,” Lilley said. “We fixed it where they signed a paper where they have to play the games or they leave.”

Opportunities are endless for students to come play their favorite games, as long as they are appropriate for the school setting, with friends.

“As of I know of, they have not restricted anything yet,” Lilley said.

The group meets next Monday, Dec. 15 during period 11 in the library. If you would like to join, pick up a permission slip from adviser librarian Kate Daniels in the library.
