The girls volleyball team won its 5th Dig Pink game against rivalry team Central Panthers last Thursday night.
Amidst the enthusiasm of the fans and pink decorations, the girls played an outstanding game defeating the Central Panthers 3-0.
Outside hitter Abbey Barnhart was very excited for this game.
“Dig Pink went really well. We raised over $2,200, and to do this we did many different fundraisers,” said Barnhart.
Dig Pink began in 2004 when Rick Dunetz, from Springfield, Virginia wanted to become a volleyball coach, but his mother had breast cancer. His mother Gloria learned that healing could come from doctors and medicine, and strength of spirit and persistence. His team decided to go out and help him as well as his mother.
The Warriors were very eager going into the game against the Panthers. The Central Panthers are second in the division with the Warriors in first.
Key players for the game include junior Abigail Bentz (11 kills, 12 assists 10 digs, 2 aces, 1 block), junior Kelly Franz (17 assists, 10 digs), and senior Abbey Barnhart (21 digs, 5 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace).
Coach Rob Marrison was very proud of his girls for playing as well as they did, still undefeated, after last night’s game.
“This was a gigantic win. This was one of the biggest matches, especially since it was Central York. With defeating the Panthers the last game with 4 sets, but tonight we only had 3 sets, with [the] Warriors having all 3 wins,” said Marrison.
Since the team is undefeated, they are guaranteed a slot in counties and district playoffs. Counties will be played at Dallastown High School, date to be determined, as well as districts being played at Central High School, date to be determined.
“We have 2 more weeks left to go. The feed of energy tonight made us go hard tonight. We definitely should be in districts due to the fact that we are number one power ranking in districts,” said Marrison.
