“The Minecraft Movie” is ‘COMING IN HOT’ in the movie industry, making $163 million domestically and $313 million globally in its opening weekend. Unsurprisingly, it became the highest grossing video game adaptation video game debut. Lines of the infamous lines of Steve, played by Jack Black, have fans going off their rockers.
“A Minecraft Movie” is a simple film with great CGI and effects. Director Jared Hess casted actor Jack Black as Steve, Jason Momoa as Garrett ‘the garbage man’ Garrison, Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry, Emma Myers as Natalie and Danielle Brooks as Dawn. Out of all the possible actors who could have played Steve, Hess specifically wanted Jack Black because he “needed an expert host” for the film.
Minecraft’s Jack Black was initially going to play a talking pig, but Ólafsson stated the team “needed an expert.”
From the cinematography to the acting, and even the sound track, “La La La Lava,” “ The Minecraft Movie” cements itself as a groundbreaking, or should I say block-breaking, movie. Black represented Steve in a fun and unique way, while still respecting the source material.
As a kid, Steve yearned for the mines; however, he was prohibited due to his young age, so he grew up losing his creative spark. However, as an adult, he rekindles his childlike self and goes down into the mineshaft. As he mines through the many chambers, he finds a glowing blue cube, the orb of dominance, with a clear glass box alongside. He puts the orb of dominance into the glass box, and he opens a portal to a beautiful, cubic wonderland- THE OVERWORLD!

The Overworld has many beautiful and breathtaking things that lie within its scenery, like Pink Sheep, Bees with huge eyes, villagers that go “Hrrr” and many mountains and terrains, but it also has a dark side. Every 20 minutes it turns into night. Zombies, skeletons, creepers, endermen, spiders, chicken jockeys, etc, all come out to hunt Steve down. It is a lonely and secluded life world for Steve. However, Steve finds his first companion, Dennis, a wolf that he tamed. Steve and Dennis were inseparable; they bathed together, ate together and built their hearts out; they even figured out that pandas love to party. Cows, too!

However, as Steve journeys through the Overworld, he discovers a ruined portal. He uses “Flint and Steeeeal” to power the portal to “The Nether.” But this wasn’t as beautiful as the Overworld-the Nether looked like hell! There was no creativity and only destruction. Creatures that look like a cross between man and pig, one could call them pigmen, rule the land. The pigmen capture Steve and Dennis and lock them in a cell. Lava, netherrack, runs all around, a place that makes you curl up in a ball and lie on the ground.
