Senior Emily Karst delivered a passionate speech to the Auxiliary Members of the VFW Post 7012 in New Freedom, successfully persuading them to donate $500 to the Tim Tebow Foundation Operation Renewed Hope to fight anti-human trafficking on Wednesday, March 6.

Karst was already a fan of Tim Tebow, a sports player turned philanthropist, before finding out about his anti-human trafficking ideas. 

…[when] I really dug into who [Tim Tebow] is as a person…I saw that he’s a huge advocate for anti-human trafficking, and then that’s how I found Operation Renewed Hope,” Karst said.

The Tim Tebow Foundation was founded by Tim Tebow with the goal of funding opposition to Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation. 

The project goals were based on a project for English teacher Tim Groth and science teacher Nick Deluca’s “Science and Literature” course, where she worked on her speech in class with teachers.

To practice for her speech, Karst received help from Groth.

“I was very proud of the work that she did,” Groth said. “I was very proud of the time that she took in developing the speech and the facts that she used to convey her ideas.” 

Karst chose to make this speech because she feels very strongly about the Tim Tebow Foundation. 

“So Tim Tebow is the operator of Operation Renewed Hope, and he has done incredible things so far,” Karst said. ”He has created a rescue team to go into these places and operating with Homeland Security and everything to track down these unidentified children to bring them out of these situations.”

After lots of practicing, Karst began her speech to the VFW Post, and the atmosphere was filled with shock, according to DeLuca.

 “There were many members of the VFW who had tears in their eyes during the speech, simply because of the content and the way that she delivered that content during the course of the speech,” DeLuca said.
