Student Musicians Hit High Notes

The Music Department has been sweeping up recognition at district and local performances.

District Jazz Festival

This past Saturday,  students showcased their talent at the District 7 Jazz Festival held at Dallastown, delivering three remarkable performances. Junior Troy Engle (guitar) and freshman Natalie Schanberger (vocals) were part of the vocal ensemble “Good Morning Everyone!” The festival brought together students from 23 schools across Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York Counties. Students were able to collaborate with peers from other schools.

SHS Orchestra students perform with YYSO

Seven orchestra student performed in the York Youth Symphony Orchestra concert at Northeastern High School  under the direction of Alyssa Allgood from the University of Illinois. Student musicians included: Allison Knauff, junior Jacob Iwanowicz, senior Mona Ledbetter-French, senior Harrison Mabon, freshman Margaret Mabon, freshman Natalie Schanberger and sophomore Logan Trimble.In addition, sophomore Weylin Kane (alto sax) performed with one of the jazz ensembles, and senior Chloe Warner (trumpet) took part in another.

John Cena Turns Heel
Eighth grader Isabel Capella, sophomore Abigail Apgar and sophomore Josie Witsik performs during the one act play in late January. Giffen recognizes the biggest struggles of putting together the one act play was rehearsal attendance. “Every rehearsal we had about half of the cast there, so there were only a few people who were there at every single rehearsal,” Giffen said. “It was definitely a challenge trying to come together for our tech week, because there were only 3 or 4 people that had been there for the whole thing. And then everyone else was really struggling with their lines and didn’t know where they were supposed to be. So, that was definitely a big struggle.” Photograph by Beth Witsik
