Janessa Pickney was one of the students selected for turning in a piece of artwork.
“YCASE brings in this case 13-15 schools together and allows students to see all the artwork throughout the county…so it’s really bridging all the art departments into one event,” Pickney said.

Pickney was proud of the other art that was submitted for the exhibition.

“Honestly, I felt like we turned in a lot of good art work,” Pickney said.    “…to have that many pieces selected into the category, it shows us the level of talent along with creativity and how its a big honor for these students to be recognized by professional jurors and to be seen throughout the county.”

Photography teacher Wade Bowers and art teacher Wesley Myers are both incredibly proud of their students for placing and being chosen as finalists.

Pinckney was surprised about her artwork being chosen as a finalist.

“The project I was doing in art class was a sketch from my book to do my art piece, and I put a lot of time and effort into it, even taking it home to work on it so I can add more detail which was with oil pastels since it was something I used more on the piece than anything else,” Pickney said “And I was honestly surprised that my art piece was chosen since I didn’t think it would be chosen at all.”

Scarlett-Pennington-Lindley was the first place winner at the exhibition. She comments on her feelings about being the winner of YCASE as well as the piece she turned into the YCASE.

“So I submitted multiple pieces, but the one that they chose to be a finalist was a drawing of a girl looking at a fish which was more realistic, which was the one that won first place,” Lindley said. “I didn’t really get any feedback on my art piece and not even like a paper or anything. And I use Pinterest a lot to get inspiration for my art pieces.”

Lindely put a lot of time and effort into her piece.
“I think my art piece won because it was more  realistic then the other piece that I submitted       and showed my creativity more, and the one that was chosen showed more of my skill more,” Lindley said. “It makes me feel happy because I put a lot of work into developing my artistic ability, and it makes me feel like my skills were worth developing.

And I was scared because I felt like there were way better art pieces compared to mine and lots of talented people there, and I wasn’t very confident in myself and was surprised that I won.”
