“Hustle. Loyalty. Respect.”
Those were the words John Cena lived by, but now he has turned heel for the first time in his career, selling his soul to The Final Boss after winning the WWE Elimination Chamber match on Saturday, March 1.
It happened after Cena’s victory, earning him a shot at becoming the Undisputed WWE Championship for Wrestlemania 41. Cena then aligned himself with his longtime rival, The Rock, to betray The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, by attacking him in the ring.

Cena stayed in the ring after winning the Elimination Chamber match as Cody Rhodes came to the ring to congratulate Cena on his win. The Rock interrupted Cena and Rhodes’ meeting to get his answer if Rhodes would sell his soul to ‘The Final Boss.’ Rhodes disrespectfully declined The Rock’s offer, because his soul belongs to the ring and to the fans. Cena hugged Rhodes as if he was celebrating his rejection of The Rock’s advances.

Cena then began to pound Rhodes, which eventually ended up with The Rock whipping Cody Rhodes with his own belt.
This is the first time for Cena to ever turn heel in WWE history, shocking many WWE fans like sophomore Colton Garcelon.
“I couldn’t believe what I was watching,” Garcelon said. “He’s like every kid’s hero. He probably shattered a bajillions of hearts,” said senior Nathan Lobo. Some fans, like sophomore Blake Hundermark, speculate that after the betrayal Cody Rhodes will have the motivation to turn heel.

“I feel John Cena betraying him will help him eventually turn heel,” Hundermark said.
Garcelon agrees, only he also believes Rhodes will “basically pretend to be Homelander.”
John Cena turning heel is uncharted ground for WWE and WWE fans, never seen before. Fans are excited and are anticipating the conclusion to come to an end. The only way to find out more is to wait until April 19 when Wrestlemania 41 comes out.
