Donald Trump, a member of the Republican party,  was inaugurated on Jan. 20 as President of the United States.

Winning the election against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in November, he began by choosing members for his cabinet. He chose many of his allies, such as Robert Kennedy Jr. for the Department of Health and Human Services, Elon Musk for the new Department of Government Efficiency, Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence and Kash Patel as Director of the FBI.

On his first day in office, he made over 20 executive orders to change the United States. He left the Paris Climate Agreement, established the Department of Government Effeciency and revoked 70+ executive orders by former President Joseph Biden.

Despite only being president for a short time, there is plenty of controversy relating to Donald Trump’s presidency. People against Trump argue that his tariff plan is bad for America and that he supports corporations over the lower class. They also argue that trump is bad for LGBTQ+ rights. On the other hand, people for Trump argue his economic plan will end wasteful spending and put America first. They also argue that he will strengthen America and lower prices and taxes.

Trump’s policies are most likely going to be based on lessening government involvement in the economy, along with overhauling US foreign policy and imposing tariffs on foreign nations. Diplomatically, Trump has spoken that he would go for an anti-war policy and would attempt to negotiate a peace in Ukraine during his term.

As the elected president for the next four years, despite the controversy surrounding him, Trump hopes for an economically independent America, one that avoids foreign wars as well.
