With construction at its end, news about a grant for a new roof at both the high school and middle school has spread.
Susan Green, the Chief Financial & Operations Officer/School Board Secretary, and Trevor Carrington, the business manager, wrote the grant application, taking around 4 months- applying in June and receiving it in October.
“It took roughly 5-7 hours to complete the grant application itself,” Green said. “We are so happy that we got our roof grant accepted.”
Green and Carrington are excited about the roof grant and the new opportunities it will bring for the school.
“This project was over 2 million dollars. We don’t have to pay all 100%, we only pay 25% and the matching component pays that 75%,” Green said. “…for the community… we try whenever we can.”
Green and Carrington got their approval in the fall of 2024, wanting to begin their project soon and hopefully have it done during the summer. They want kids to feel safe.
According to Green, she and Carrington have major sway over important decisions regarding what money is spent and what goes within and around the school.
“So, if any dollar is not spent …from the general budget, [that leftover money] would be something that can be spent on other uses …,” Green said. “Also, there’s less potential for concerns with leaks when we replace roofs, not saying they’re with a leaky roof which are like …giant buckets everywhere, but anytime you can just make the building more sound, [is a solid choice].”
The update is to be completed in the summer of 2025.
