Administration Opens High School to Community at Ribbon Cutting

Superintendent Robert Bryson, alongside other district administrators, cut the red ribbon to mark the near completion of construction on Sunday, Nov. 10.

The ribbon cutting featured tours of the school from National Honors Society members, music from the orchestra, food from the culinary students and speeches from district administrators, culminating in a performance by the marching band.

High school principal James Sterner attended the ribbon cutting and was grateful for the community members who came as well.

“I think it was an awesome opportunity for the community, and I would say especially for alumni,” Sterner said. “Talking to some people that were there, there were multiple generations of Warriors coming back with pride for their school and curiosity to see what the latest building project has done.”

Bryson thought that the ceremony was a great opportunity for the community to recognize the efforts of those involved in the renovation.

“[We] used it as an opportunity to thank all of our contractors,… teachers and custodians and maintenance staff; everybody that’s been flexible and went out of their way to make this happen over a three-year period,” Bryson said.

Sterner also showed appreciation for the different organizations, classes and clubs throughout the school.

“…huge appreciation to the staff and students that contributed to the day, from making hors d’oeuvres that were served, to featuring their work in the shops, or performing arts during it,” Sterner said. “Really appreciate their contributions… National Honors Society giving tours during it.”

Student orchestra member Logan Trimble was a part of the quartet that played at the ceremony. He noted the ribbon cutting being a positive event that fostered a strong sense of community.

“Everybody was very excited to be there and to celebrate a monumental achievement at the school,” Trimble said. “Everyone was very excited to see the school reopened after it has been under construction for the past couple of years.”

The construction, which began in late 2021, started with the goal to improve student learning and provide better opportunities for students to be ready for their future.

“[The renovation] sets staff up to support students in being prepared for life, whether they want to be an engineer, a chef, whether they want to work with kids… our classrooms, our shops, and our labs are equipped for preparing them for those roles,” Sterner said.

Bryson elaborated on the idea of supporting students through new areas designed for collaboration.

“I’m excited about the ability for students to collaborate and have spaces throughout the building where they don’t have to be contained in a classroom,” Bryson said. “Nooks and small-work areas throughout the building…the commons area, the natural lighting and the flexibility.”

With renovations coming to a close, the ribbon cutting marks the opening of new opportunities for generations of students to come.
