The marching band performed at Cumberland Valley High School for the Cavalcade of Bands Championships this past Saturday, Nov. 2. They came in first place in the Liberty Open, scoring a 95.95.
Junior Ryan Reeves plays baritone for the marching band in this year’s show and comments on the band’s victory.
“We felt really good and got to celebrate right after,” Reeves said.
This is the band’s 4th consecutive championship win and 7th within the past eight seasons.
“We won a good bit, almost two points above second with a 95.95…,” Reeves said. “Even more so… one of the judges gave us a 100 percent in percussion, which they weren’t allowed to do, since technically you’re meant to leave room in case a later band is better.”
They competed against bands from across the state, including, in the liberty open class, Elverson, Dillsburg, Roseabia, Marlton, Greencastle and Whitehall, PA.
This performance marks the completion of their 2024 competition season with one last performance.
“We do the ribbon cutting for the new part of the school, and we have a banquet with food and some awards and that’s it,” Reeves said.
The band could not have accomplished this stellar performance and victory without months and months of hard work and determination.
“[It took] lots and lots of practice, good instructors whom challenge us, determination, and all that kinda stuff,” Reeves said. “It sounds a bit cheesy, but it really is as simple as we won because we work hard.”
