On Thursday, April 18, 2024, students in AP Environmental Sciences finished their water filtration project. After days of planning students constructed and tested their water filters with materials provided by sciences teacher Elizabeth Worley. To help with grading and instruction, Worley invited civil engineer and school board member Jim Holley of engineering firm James R. Holley and Associates Inc.
Junior Zoey Jones and senior Abigail Fisher construct their water filter using coffee filters, sawdust, gravel, and other materials. “Sawdust is really good for… soaking up all the big clumps and everything and that's… what the pebbles are in,” said Fisher. “We really want to get the sand and sediments out of there and we;re just going to be left with the water.” Photograph by Lachlan Gemmill-Edwards
