Tri-M Concerto Competition CANCELLED

The Tri-M Concerto Competition is an event held every year for students to showcase their talents with a musical song of choice. This year the competition is cancelled due to lack of communication and weather.

Senior Lucas Sherman, a returning member of the Tri-M, explains what the competition is.

“It’s basically musicians who study outside of class and really wanna learn more about music,” said Sherman. “We play these certain songs called “concertos” which basically means that there is one instrument playing as a solo, and there’s an orchestra playing in the background. It’s a great experience to learn some great repertoire as well as learning how to be a leader,” said Sherman.

Choir Director Jay Althouse, a Tri-M advisor, explained how not all participants responded to the deadline and how choosing a date was a struggle in an email to interested participants.

In order to make the date official, we needed to hear back from EVERYONE whether this date is good for them or not by the end of the day (3:00 PM) Monday, April 2, 2018. I only heard back from 2.5 acts. In addition, I stated in a previous email, ‘Please know this will be the last date that we choose. If everyone can not attend that wants to attend, then we will not hold the competition this year.’ We did have one student respond that wanted to do it, but the date would not work; therefore, we are being forced to cancel,” said Althouse.

The competitive acts that did respond to Althouse’s emails were invited to participate in the Tri-M Induction Ceremony in May, so they don’t miss the learning opportunity. The date is pending for that event.
