Boys Basketball Comeback Falls to Eastern

The boys basketball team took on the Eastern York Golden Knights Friday night in a highly anticipated rematch.

The Warriors came up short at Eastern York in their last meeting on January 3, losing by a score of 57-49.

With the last game being so tight, home court advantage was a big factor coming into the game for the Warriors.

Led by sophomore guard Trevor Seitz’s three-point shooting, Eastern controlled the majority of the first half.

Junior forward Will Ogude knows what the Warriors could have done to put themselves in a better position in the first half.

“We were very stagnant offensively,” said Ogude. “We could’ve looked to move around and get easier looks instead of forcing things.”

Similar to their first meeting, the Warriors made a second half push to close the deficit.

Senior guard Josh Smiley believes the Warriors’ attitude changed in the locker room.

“We were reminded of the first time we played these guys,” said Smiley. “Knowing we were down 15 at halftime last game, and that we came back to tie up the ball game helped give us more life.”

Three fourth quarter three-point shots from senior forward Jackson Murphy helped spark a late run for the Warriors.

However, Susky’s defense was not enough to stop Trevor Seitz, who finished the game with 27 points.

A slam dunk from forward Demonte Martin in the closing minutes silenced the crowd and locked up the win for the Golden Knights.

The game ended with a score of 76-66.

As the season progresses, Junior foward Kenny Rhyne wants his team to remember that basketball is a four quarter game.

“We just need to stay focused and keep the energy throughout the whole game,” said Rhyne.

A winning streak to end the season will put the Warriors (3-11) in a better position to make the playoffs.
