2N2 Drives into Susky

Car crashes are the #1 killer for teenagers, so 2N2, a nationwide competition, has made its way to Susquehannock to reduce the amount of car crashes.

2N2 is a competition from State Farm where schools around the country compete for $100,000 and free tickets for an Echosmith concert. In order to win, a school must represent 2N2 in the best way with advertising. 2N2 focuses on two eyes on the road and two hands on the wheel to reduce driving distractions and to build confidence for new drivers.

Drivers Education teacher Doug Truscott is the adviser of 2N2. Superintendent Bob Bryson received an email about 2N2 and told Principal Kevin Molin and Truscott about it, which led to the start of the program at the high school. After research of 2N2, Truscott decided to show his students a video about it.

“I think it’s a great concept and idea for student drivers to be aware of,” Truscott said.

Truscott believes that students will learn the concept and apply it to their everyday driving.

The students at Susquehannock are advertising 2N2 in many ways. They hung up posters, had the cheerleaders create and perform a cheer for games, set up announcements over the morning announcements, and after football games, the announcer broadcasts the announcement of 2N2. Sophomore, and member of 2N2, Nate Hunsinger believes that the advertising will create a response from students.

“I think students see the posters and remind themselves that anything can happen while they are driving, and that they need to be more careful and safe behind the wheel,” Hunsinger said.

For the most part, the school who wins the 2N2 competition can do anything with the $100,000. Junior and member Gabby Martuszewski explains options that the school can do.

“The school gets $100,000, but $22,000 goes towards the driver’s ed program. From there, the school can do anything they want with the money.”

The competition ends on October 25, so all the schools competing in 2N2 have until then to showcase “2 eyes on the road, 2 hands on the wheel” in the best way.

As State Farm says, “When teens drive 2N2, everybody wins.”
