Homecoming is just around the corner, meaning proposals, new outfits, and the most contentious and beloved of traditions: the selection of homecoming court.

All ten of the candidates for homecoming queen were selected by a ballot sent out to seniors, who helped narrow down the list from over 100 names to the finalists, who are all seniors.

This year, Rachel Banchiere, Kayla Bennett, Ashley Cox, Brianna Fitzgerald, Kelly Franz, Megan Keuler, Mallory Lebo, Rachel Miller, Laura Savin, and Maddy Staub are all up for the title.

Keuler had a unique reaction to the announcement.

“I was surprised. I just sat there and looked really confused,” said Keuler. “It’s flattering though … [walking at] the football game is going to be so cool.”

Court has several events to attend before the big announcement. In the weeks before the dance, they take a group picture, sit at the center of a school-wide pep rally, and walk across the football field before the Homecoming game, culminating at the dance on Saturday, October 24.

Franz is ready to start her court requirements.

“I’m really excited for the football game,” said Franz. “My parents will be by my side and I get to represent my school to the community … I was honored that my classmates chose me.”

Banchiere was taken aback about her place on the finalists.

“I was flattered and excited when I heard the news,” said Banchiere. “It’s not the most important thing in my life, but I’m still so honored about the compliment that this is.”

After years of going to Homecoming, the girls on court are enjoying their time as the most important guests at the dance.

Soon, homecoming queen will be chosen, but for now, the girls on court are ready to share the spotlight.
