Marching Band Astounds at the York Fair
The marching band was featured at the York Fair.
After spending countless hours on the field preparing, the marching band performed at the York Fair to a huge crowd on September 13.
Marching band director Chris Poole had the band prepare differently than normal.
“The Saturday before the show we rehearsed playing the field show,” said Poole. “It is a different type of performance because we do a standing show instead of the usual marching. We also got to the fair early to warm up.”
This show was one of the band’s first big performances of the year, so everyone was very excited about performing it.
Senior saxophone player Jacob Rohrbaugh enjoyed the band’s unified sound.
“I think we did really well,” said Rohrbaugh. “It was cool to hear everything together since it was just a standing show.”
It’s no surprise that the marching band did well in their performance since they are dedicated and spend so much time in rehearsals.
Performing at the York Fair is a highlight for many of the people in marching band, senior drum captain Brandon Morris always enjoys performing at the York Fair.
“The performance is really fun,” said Morris. “I like being able to stand and play drums with my best friends.”
Not only is the performance a good experience, but it is also a way for the marching band to prepare for competition season.
Freshman snare player Julian Stewart explains the advantages to this performance.
“[The show] is a preliminary experience for the competition season,” said Stewart. “It’s like a test run before we actually start getting scored on our shows.”
The show at the York Fair seems to have gone very well for the marching band, which is a good sign in regards to the rest of its competition season.
The marching band is already working hard to get ready for their first competition of the season in two weeks.
