Student Council Announces Homecoming Theme

Student Council is going classy this year with the homecoming theme “Fly Around The World With Me” by combining multiple themes into one that they are sure will excite the student body.

Senior Abby Ferraro believes that Student Council will make the most out of the theme.

“When I first heard of the theme, I thought ‘this would be difficult to draw attention to,’ but then I realized that they could do a lot with it,” Ferraro said.

Junior Student Council member Kelsey McCullough suggested this year’s theme.

“There were a lot of different themes suggested like ‘A Night In Paris,’ or a Las Vegas or casino theme, so I combined them all to do around the world,” McCullough said.

Student Council plans on incorporating the Eiffel Tower, Las Vegas, an African Safari, and Chinese and Japanese ideas into the theme.

The advisor of Student Council, Kellin McCullough, says that they are planning to do something different with the dance this year. The council is trying to make the dance grander than years in the past. They are having a party planner, balloon art, a hypnotist, lanterns in the main gym, games in the auxiliary gym and desserts from different countries; they have decided that students will suggest the music.

“In the auxiliary gym there will be casino tables and other activities for students to participate in while the dance is going on,” McCullough said.

So far, there have been posters hanging around the school advertising for the dance. Erin Kaliszak, a sophomore member of the council plans on advertising in a bigger, classier way instead of just using posters and the announcements.

“We are going to use social media like Instagram and Twitter, and we’re going to make videos,” Kaliszak said.

Ferraro suggested that the council should use sporting events to advertise for the dance.

“A good handful of students attend sporting events like soccer games, volleyball games, and football games, so I think advertising there with posters or handouts would be a good idea for student council to look into,” Ferraro said.

McCullough looks forward to ticket sales to start. Usually student council waits until the week of homecoming to start selling tickets, but now they will be happening earlier this year so that students won’t feel rushed to buy them and will have more time. Ticket costs are not set yet, but the council believes that the cost will be higher.

The homecoming dance is on Saturday, October 24 from 7:00-10:00 p.m.
