Summer is a great time to relax, see friends and enjoy the warm weather, but it may seem like it is hard to stay entertained without many vacations planned or an unlimited amount of money on hand. These ideas will provide easy and inexpensive ways to enjoy the summer without the boredom.

1. Old Fashioned Camping
Gather some friends, and pitch a tent in the backyard. Make a night of it with s’mores, swimming (if a pool is available) and some music, and enjoy the stars and the company of friends. There are also local campgrounds that are not too expensive, such as Merry Meadows.

2. See a movie at a drive-in
Going to a drive-in is way cheaper than a regular movie theater and offers a unique experience with a vintage feel as there are very few drive-in theatres left. Drive-in movies also allow more privacy while watching the movie. Haars drive-in is one of the few drive-in theatres that can be found locally.

3. Take an impromptu road trip.
No matter how old you are, adventures are always fun. Gather some friends, and take a road trip. It does not have to be far, but road trips create great memories and are an inexpensive way to make a boring day exciting.

4. Get beach ready.
Most people are planning to visit the beach at least once over the summer. It’s never too early to start going out and sunning or to achieve those beach ready abs to feel confident when you step onto the beach. Try exercises such as T-25, P90X, or the Jillian Michaels workout to work hard and get in shape quicker.

5. Plan a special day with a significant other.
Get your significant other, and go for a walk to a local park or nearby area; put down a blanket, and have a picnic. Picnics are the perfect romantic date, and the food is free and offers the best outdoor seating.

6. Find some local concerts.
There are tons of big music festivals throughout the summer such as Warped Tour that require little travel time and offer weekend long tickets to see 50+ artists rather than paying a high price to see one artist. There are also free concerts offered in the community, so go support the community and see some free performances. These performances include Brodbeck’s band from Glen Rock and the annual battle of the bands at the carnival along with many other local events.

7. Create a summer playlist.
Hot weather means loud music with the windows down. Create an awesome playlist that can be played during any summer event from parties to road trips. When you hear the songs later, they will bring back summer memories.

8. Go star gazing.
Star-gazing can be a variety of things from relaxing to romantic and is completely free. Make a boring night fun by putting a blanket out and lying under the stars to create an enjoyable night with a significant other, friends, or even just for yourself. There are even apps such as sky view and the NASA app that show where different constellations are in the sky.

9. Go hiking.
Hiking is great exercise and is a nice relaxing natural environment. Hiking provides a quiet environment away from the busyness of everyday life and can be a great time to take some pictures if photography is something you find enjoyable.

10. Find a new hangout.
Get out of the house and just walk wherever your feet take you. Find somewhere you have never been before and make it a new special place for just friends to come and hang out while being able to enjoy the outdoors.

With all of these activities offered there will always be something to do to prevent summer boredom and make the summer memorable.
