In the Women’s NCAA championship game the mighty UCONN Lady Huskies beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This season had been nothing but pure dominance for the Lady Huskies. The first half of this game started very lopsided as the Fighting Irish’s star player Jewel Lloyd started off the game scoring all 10 of the Irish scored opening points. The Irish showed that they were ready for UCONN and was not showing no mercy.

The Lady Huskies started off the game going only scoring two out of six shots in the first two minutes. The Irish took their funk as a way to capitalize. The Fighting Irish lost their luck when UCONN star player Breanna Stewart went on a rampage. This young phenom scored 12 of the opening points for UCONN and got them out of their funk. The Fighting Irish tried their best to stop Stewart, but nothing seemed to help. The Irish got a little luck when Stewart rolled her ankle on a fast break which took the young star out of the game with only 8 minutes to go in the first half.

The Irish tried to use the injury to their advantage, but Stewart’s teammates had her back. Senior Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis rained on the Fighting Irish’s parade by bombing four three pointers in a row to put the Lady Huskies up by 12 ending the first half. Just when the Irish had some luck,  it changed in an instant when they saw Breanna Stewart getting off of the bench to come back into the game.

After Stewart checked in,  it was all dominance in the second half Stewart grabbed 14 rebounds, had 26 points and was the most outstanding player of the game for the third year in a row. UCONN went on to win their 10th title beating the Irish 63-53.
