Seniors Look Forward to Thawing Out During Senior Week

Graduation, senior prom, college prep, and SATs- these are all events that come along with being a senior; however, the event that some seniors probably look forward to the most is senior week.

Senior week is the week right after graduation when former students can relax and kick off what will be the last summer before they are college students or have to go into the workforce.

A lot of students use this time to go to  the beach, Ocean City, Maryland to be exact. Graduates from all different schools come to Ocean City to hang out in the sun and blow their money on condos and food for the week.

Senior Hailey Brooks plans on spending the week with her friend and fellow student Angelina Stewart.

“We plan on having fun and enjoying our graduation with the people that made our high school years the best,” said Brooks.

Brooks wants to enjoy the beach while spending her time doing other activities that come with being in Ocean City, such as walking the boardwalk.

Ocean City isn’t the only place that seniors go to celebrate the end of their high school careers. Some students choose to spend their money on other places that they may not get the opportunity to visit in the near future.

Senior Eleri Burnett’s plan involves spending a few days in Washington, D.C. with her friends Anna Nelson, Dylan Donlon-Moyer and Erin McNeal. They plan to go there to enjoy the free museums, zoo and good food. Burnett is content with not going to Ocean City and doesn’t regret her decision in the slightest.

“None of us think we are missing out by refraining from Ocean City because there is so much more to do than just go to a beach, and staying in a city gives us a chance to explore a whole different kind of world that we haven’t really experienced before,” said Burnett.

Like Burnett, most students are making plans with friends; however,  there are some who are choosing to go off on their own, or, in some cases, with family.

Senior Madi Shockey is going to London, England for a week and a half and is staying with her older cousin.

“I don’t want to go to Ocean City because I don’t think it’s a nice beach, and I’d rather spend my money on something that most people don’t have the opportunity to do,” said Shockey.

Just as Shockey did, a lot of people are trying to find alternative ways to spend their senior week and celebrate their graduation.
