After a 13-6 season last year and a brief visit to counties and districts, the boys lacrosse team is looking to go even further.

As the season begins, the team is using their preseason conditioning as a good foundation for their skills.

Senior Josh Senn believes that the difference from last year will be the dedication in the weight room from the team.

“We weren’t very mentally prepared [last year,] and we goofed off a lot, but this year if we really focus on it and get in the right mental state, we should win a lot of games,” said Senn. “We’ve been doing a lot of preseason practices, and we’re trying to do a lot of conditioning because one thing we lacked last year was proper conditioning.”

Dedicated senior Josh Attig has been in the weight room every day after school for the past month preparing for his final season.

“I think the people who took the [preseason] workouts personal instead of just showing up for the team things [will do better],” said Attig. “[The] people actually going out and running and getting fit are going to [thrive].”

Another aspect that is going to help this year’s team is the amount of seniors on the team. With 10 seniors on the team, they are hoping that it will benefit them against the teams they lost to last season.

“We have lots of seniors graduating, so that’s a good thing…” said Attig. “We didn’t lose that many games [last year], and a lot of the teams that beat us lost all their seniors, so this year we’ll pretty much destroy everybody.”

As for the end result, the players are striving for a long postseason run.

“[Our] goals this year are to win counties and possible go to districts and win that,” said Senn.

As for the team’s leader, their coach Russ Leblanc is taking over the coaching position again. The school lacrosse team was first formed in 2009, and he was coach as well as coach of club teams prior. Leblanc stepped down four years ago, yet he is ready to relive the position.

“I am very grateful and excited to return to Susquehannock as the boy’s lacrosse coach,” said Leblanc. “It is my intention to continue to help these young men grow in the game of lacrosse as well as personally.”

Leblanc believes that the teams, greatest asset will be the benefit of having 10 seniors.

“With a team full of seniors, leadership should be one of the greatest assets,” said Leblanc. “If we give our best effort every day, respect others and handle our own responsibilities, it could be quite a rewarding season.”

The boys lacrosse teams have their first game on March 12.
