The award was granted to the district for exceeding the criteria in regards to “Developing a Vision for Learning, Role of the Library Program in Teaching and Learning, Building a Learning Environment, and Empowering Learning through Leadership.”

The five librarians in the district, Lynn Clements of Southern Elementary, Anne Bozievich of Friendship Elementary, Wendy Fitzgerald of Shrewsbury Elementary, Norma Conley of Southern Middle, and Kayse Corrieri of Susquehannock High, all contributed to the hard work it took to be recognized and to incorporate the library into the student’s regular school day.

Roseanne Isang, the senior aide for the library, was thrilled to hear the news of the library receiving an award.

“I’m so happy to hear about the award. I see how hard Mrs. Corrieri and Mrs. May work to make sure that the library is in the amazing shape that it is. They truly deserve this award,” said Isang.

For those that don’t know what the “program” is, it is essentially when teachers and students use the library heavily for research papers and other such projects. The incorporation of all of the databases also falls under this umbrella.

Kayse Corrieri, the librarian at Susquehannock High School, commented that having a simple K-12 program prepares the students.

“By teaching the kids to work with the [online library program] at an early age, they are familiar with the process and aren’t worried. [Also,] by using the computers, we don’t need as many people working in the library at once,” said Corrieri

As it currently stands, Southern York County School District’s libraries are the best in the region. Corrieri states that the reason for this is that there is a close connection between the library staff and the Technology Staff.

“Every school could incorporate the program if [the library] would speak with the tech people,” said Corrieri.

The librarians will be honored at an awards ceremony on Friday, May 3 at the Pennsylvania State Library Awards breakfast held at the Hershey Lodge.
