Marching Band Displays their Talent at the University of Delaware

After hours of practice spent on the field, the marching band was selected to compete at the Bands of America competition at the University of Delaware on October 17.

They placed 20 out of 26 bands, competing against some of the most elite marching bands on the East Coast.

This was the first time that the marching band had been chosen to compete in over a decade.

Senior and low brass section leader Frankie Zappardino explains the process of the competition.

“The competition consists of bands across the East coast,” said Zappardino. “First, we have to perform at this preliminary competition, and then they will choose 12 for the finals. We were the only school within a 50-mile radius to be invited.”

In addition to competing, the band also got to use this event as a learning experience.

The band is going on this trip for more than just the competition. Sophomore 5th bass drum Lucas Sherman found many benefits from the experience.

“We’re not just going for the competition itself, but also for the experience overall,” said Sherman. “Being able to see the different shows will help us become better. We haven’t been able to see many other shows, so it will be a good learning experience for us.”

The marching band had a great time on their trip to the University of Delaware. They have championships in November and hope now that they have participated in Bands of America, they will be considered for more competitions in the future.
