A “Mary” Musical Takes the Stage

This year’s musical, Mary Poppins, astonished students and seasoned musical audience members alike.

Set in London 1910, it zeroes in on a family with parents preoccupied with other things in life besides the kids.

With reluctance, they hire a new nanny, the magical Mary Poppins, and are quite surprised with the outcome.

From the beginning, Poppins has brought sunshine into the kids’ lives, and they embark on many magical adventures together.

Scenes like the “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and the chimney sweeps were a few of the crowds’ favorite scenes.

Junior Savannah Caldwell went to the play and enjoyed the experience.

“It’s the only school musical or play I have ever gone to, but thanks to the play preview, it drew me in enough to make me want to go,” said Caldwell. “I thought the experience was awesome. My favorite scene was the scene where they sang “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” because the dancing and singing was fantastic, and it flowed together overall.”

During the musical, the acting and singing were well prepared and well thought out.

Guidance secretary Grace Myers loved the acting and singing, along with the music that came along with it.

“Overall the musical was fantastic, I have been going to them for the past 17 years, and this was definitely close to the best,” said Myers. “My favorite part of the play was where the statue came to life. I was fooled; I thought it was props.”

The music really set off the acting and the performing, given that everything was on que.

English teacher Jessica Beste thought the play was fun and loved all of it.

“It was one of the best productions I’ve ever seen on stage,” said Beste. “No matter if it was the musical acting or the pit, it was all tied together [perfectly].”

Since this was the last musical for the seniors, some emotions were stirred, but all the hours of preparation and practice will never be forgotten.
