‘Interstellar’ is Out of this World
November 23, 2014
With a phenomenal cast, Interstellar was bound to break the box-office and give viewers a roller coaster ride with its sci-fi plot.
The film was another one of Christopher Nolan’s masterpieces. The director of such hits as Inception, Momento, and the critically acclaimed The Dark Knight, has put this action packed thriller in the theaters.
The story revolves around farmer and former NASA pilot Cooper set on near future Earth. The Earth is dying and cannot be saved. Cooper is asked by his former professor and friend, Professor Brand, to save the human race and find a new planet for all humanity.
Cooper, the leading man, is played by Hollywood heavyweight Matthew McConaughey who is most known for his role in the recent projects such as Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective. It seemed as if McConaughey was a miscast. The performance was excellent, but it just seemed that it could’ve been better. It felt as if he was not comfortable in the role, or the audience wasn’t comfortable seeing the actor in a sci-fi flick. Someone like Matt Damon, Mark Ruffalo or even Mark Wahlberg would of been great to see as the pilot of the space endeavour.
Other than the slight miscast of McConaughey, the casting was spectacular. The science fiction story includes Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Matt Damon, and Jessica Chastain. Even the supporting cast had some experienced actors like Topher Grace, David Gyasi and Wes Bentley.
The plot can be a little confusing at first but it eventually makes sense. It deals with a lot of science oriented conflicts which can be hard to understand for some viewers, but the story keeps the audience on their toes and never fails to entertain.
The visuals were nothing less than perfect. Seeing the film in IMAX theaters is highly recommended. After having seen the movie in both IMAX and regular quality, the IMAX theater blew the standard theater out of the water for six extra dollars. There is a scene in the movie where the crew must enter a wormhole. Experiencing the wormhole in IMAX is worth the $15.00 spent to see the movie.
The two hour and forty minute run time may have many viewers running from the theaters, but it does not seem nearly that long. It only seemed like a long movie at the beginning, but as it unfolds, the time passes easily.
I would give the film a nine out of ten as well. The plot was great, the casting was close to perfect, and the ending will have you pre-ordering tickets for a, hope to be, sequel. Anyone who is a film-fanatic, frequent movie-goer, or anyone who wants to experience one of the best films of the year should see Interstellar.
