This year’s draft, on May 8, had some of the most talented players coming out of college. For the first time, a running back was not drafted until the third round, but the biggest shock of all was the wait quarterback Johnny Manzeil had to endure while being chosen. Manzeil was not drafted until the pick 22, which lasted two and a half hours. When Manzeil’s name was called and his telephone rang, Manzeil was drafted to the Cleveland Browns.
The Cleveland Browns are coached by the former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. Pettine’s defense was the only thing that drove the Bills to any wins. Many analysts believe that Manzeil will fit into the Cleveland offense pretty well with Kyle Shannahan as the offensive coordinator. The question is: will Manzeil be successful in the AFC North conference?
Previously at Texas A&M Manzeil won a Heisman Trophy as a freshman and lead his team to two bowl games, the conference is home to the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers, and of course the Cleveland Browns. Manzeil is known for his quickness and elusiveness within the pocket, so many analysts are debating whether his ability to elude tacklers will be effective in the pro level. It will not work in the NFL due to the amount of athleticism each defensive player holds. Manzeil’s ability was one of the main reasons he was so successful in college. Manzeil will have to rely on his pocket presence to make the right decisions, whether that is to tuck the ball and run, throw the ball to his receiver, or throw the ball away.
Johnny “Football” Manzeil is known for his cocky attitude and his selfish ways. Another downfall Manzeil will have is his attitude. With their past 5 seasons of not making a 500 record, the Cleveland Browns are not exactly the best team in the NFL … they are one of the worst. You could say Manzeil is known for success. To be respected in the NFL as a serious quarterback, he will need to be respectful and forget his selfish ways.
