Rice had trouble in the 2013 season with injuries and lack of rushing yards. Now Rice faces troubles off the field with allegations accusing him of domestic abuse.
The 2013 season was a career worst for the Baltimore running back as he only had 660 yards off 214 carries. Rice was battling a hip injury throughout the season which was a large factor in the lacking Ravens running game. With Rice and his lack of production, Baltimore called upon the young Bernard Pierce. Pierce, with lack of experience, only rushed for 436 yards off 152 carries.
Rice is now facing domestic abuse charges due to an incident in Atlantic City at the Rebel Casino. A video was released of Rice dragging his wife by the hair out of the casino.
Freshman Conor Miller has been a Baltimore Ravens fan his whole life. Miller was very disappointed with the results of last year’s season and the lack of production from Rice.
“If he has to do jail time, this incident will affect his season obviously,” said Miller. “But with no jail time, I think his season should hopefully be a lot better than last year. He obviously needs to improve.”
Rice was acquitted of the domestic abuse charges after Rice pleaded not-guilty in the case. “He’s very remorseful for the actions that happened that night,” said Michael Diamonstein, Rices attorney, according to Baltimore CBS local news.
English teacher Jessica Beste is a very passionate Ravens fan.
“It’s sad what happened to Rice,” said Beste. “[He’s] being such a figure in the community. I hope this does not change how people think about him because he does so much for Baltimore.” Beste also believes with Head Coach John Harbough’s leadership the Ravens will not be affected by this scandal.
Rice will be back for offseason workouts as soon as his legal work is over.
Senior Jake Mcdonald has watched the Ravens his whole life and is informed on all Baltimore sports.
“I think the Ravens will be fine this year,” said Mcdonald. “The Ray Rice incident is nothing more than a distraction in the off-season; it will blow over soon.”
Many Baltimore fans are looking for Rice to put this issue behind him and help the Ravens bring home a Championship just like he did in 2012.
