The girls’ basketball team finished their post season with a double overtime thriller last year, against Delone Catholic.
Under coach Schreiner, the Lady Warriors finished the season with 18 wins and 9 losses, featuring an appearance in the district final game and a short run to the state title.
The Warriors lost three senior starters from last season, Jeanette Wilson, Lexi Murphy, and Leah Deter. Returning upperclassmen include senior Makenzie Fancher, senior Katie Wagner, senior Olivia Royer and senior Shannon Druck. The four have high expectations for the 2013-2014 season.
Druck, a recent University of Holy Cross commit, weighs in on the upcoming season.
“I’ve been working my butt off in this off-season,” said Druck. “I’ve been going to open gyms for the team, and playing AAU ball.”
Druck’s individual goal is joining the 1,000 point club. The club is a large achievement where a basketball player scores 1,000 points, by scoring or assisting, a huge milestone for any basketball player. Her goal for the team is to win the district title.
When asked what she was expecting for the new season she said, “To go to the moon and back.”
Fancher, a returning starter, says she expects to play in counties, districts, states, and make it farther than they did last year.
“To be better we need to work on consistently scoring, playing defense as a team, and to keep a high intensity level at all times,” said Fancher. “I believe West York is out to get us this year.”
The Lady Warriors had an amazing game against the Bulldogs last year for the remaining spot in the District III Class AAA championship game. Fancher has been preparing for this season by playing AAU ball, playing all year round, and attending the voluntary basketball open gyms.
The warriors have been working this preseason to accomplish their goal of winning their district title game, and much more.
