The Girls Varsity Field Hockey team advanced to the postseason after a season ending with a record of 6-2.
The Warriors finished the regular season tied for first with two other Division II schools, West York and Kennard Dale.
Eleven wins and five losses latter, the girls marched their way into the first round of the playoffs. Their first round opponent, Lancaster Catholic finished the regular season with a 14-4 record including 12 wins and only one loss in the division. The match-up favored Lancaster Catholic, but the warriors traveled to Penn Manor High school on October 22 and played an intense game against the Crusaders.
After an early goal by junior Tayler Mumley, the warriors led the game 1-0 until Lancaster Catholic scored a tying goal with four minutes left in regulation.
In overtime both teams showed off their strong defense. Senior Ashton Alban with an impressive defensive effort, denied 13 goals for the Warriors over the course of the game. At the end of the first overtime the score was still tied at one. At the start of the second overtime both teams continued to play well defensively. Lancaster Catholic scored their second goal with nine minutes left. Unfortunately, the Warriors were shut down and left Penn Manor with a 2-1 loss.
The Warriors ended their season after a short playoff run, but have hopes of improving next season. The team will lose six seniors but will also welcome back many returning underclassmen, including sophomore Julianne Martinez.
“Our goals for next year is making it to counties and districts and improving as a team” said Martinez when asked about what we can expect from the team next season.
