Since the dawn of humanity, there are many great debates that have impacted society to its core. But from all of these, one debate stands out: 100 Men vs 1 Gorilla.
Starting as a Reddit post in the ‘r/whowouldwin Reddit forum’ in 2020, it later went viral on TikTok in 2022 and resurfaced in 2025.
In this theoretical battle, 100 Average Adult Males must battle a singular Silverback Gorilla. It is a fight to the death and will only end when the entirety of one side has fallen.
While the gorilla is a powerful creature that could easily overpower 10, 20, or even 50 humans, when it comes to 100 men, he will fail to beat them and will be killed by them.
The silverback gorilla, despite being able to lift 20x more weight than humans, is still subject to other weakening factors. A Silverback gorilla is almost the same size as a human, meaning that it is vulnerable to punches and can be easily surrounded. It also is weakened by its energy. While 100 humans could take turns, 1 gorilla can quickly lose its energy with no way to replenish.
“The male gorilla comes in with all of his size and strength, 400 pounds of pure muscle, incredible jaw strength, just a very intimidating demeanor,” Tara Stoinski, the president, CEO and chief scientific officer for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund told Yahoo! News. “I think, though, that in this case, it’s a numbers game. With 100 men coming after one gorilla, they just have a lot of strategies that they could use to wear the gorilla down, to tire them out. They can coordinate their behavior; they can take turns.”
There are many strategies that humans can use to defeat the gorilla. They could take turns, using their energy carefully. They could grab his limbs while punching its most vulnerable regions, such as the face. They could even split up, costing the gorilla necessary energy chasing them, before regrouping and defeating the now tired gorilla.
Though the humans would likely win, it would be ignorant to assume the humans would come out unscathed. Plenty of casualties would occur, and it would be a pyrrhic victory at best.
