3D Design Competition Sparks Creativity

May 23, 2023

Students from Think Tank, Graphic Design and Engineering classes earned third place in a 3D design competition.

25 schools with students ranging from thrid grade to twelfth grade competed to ideate the best solution to the problem of pollution in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.

The prompt was “The health of the Chesapeake Bay is currently struggling, design something to support or improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem.”

The competition, which was hosted by LIU, included schools from Adams, Franklin, and York County.

From SHS, the final team consisted of Brianna Copp, Eli DePalmer, Emma Blazek and Rachel Stiffler, earning third place.

Students were given their prompt at 9 a.m. and were given until 1 p.m. to find a solution and then present their findings to all involved.

Three teams came up with ideas involving chemical reactions that remove nitrogen and or phosphorus from the water.

Our “in-house winner” designed the ‘AluMesh’ idea to develop a mesh that will stop pollution from running into the Chesapeake Bay.
