If you see an “O” code in your student’s attendance in Sapphire, it means “Other”. Under this category your student is excused for a documented reason. For example, a doctor, dentist, orthodontist, physical therapy and/or counseling appointment, funeral, family emergency, court/legal matters, religious observances. You can review the District Board Policies for acceptable excused absences in the SMS Handbook online, Appendix B, page 53.
- Please note that passport appointments are not excusable. You can avoid an unlawful early dismissal or unlawful absence by making your appointment on Saturday mornings. Many post offices in York offer that option.
