ZeniMax Media Designer Talks to Electronic Arts Students

December 22, 2021

It is one thing to play video games, but it is another to make them.                                                                                                                                     That is the job of ZeniMax Concept Artist Mike May.
ZeniMax Media is an award-winning video game holding company that has helped develop games from Bethesda Game Studios such as “The Elder Scrolls” and the “Fallout” series.
They also helped other developers such as id Software (Doom, Quake and Rage series), Arkane Studios (Dishonored and Prey), MachineGames (Wolfenstein series) and Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within).

Being a concept artist is more than just sketching new ideas and handing them off, though.
“I’ve done pretty much everything from animation to modeling environments to characters and texturing, all that good stuff, ” said.
But May is not the only designer Zenimax has, and far from it.
May said, “There are about one thousand people in (the studio) on any given day… it has been really fun being part of the original group.”
While video game design may sound like the dream for some people, it is actually extremely difficult, but with enough determination, it can be done.

“One thing I would say to anyone who wants to go into video game design is to just never give up,” May said.
