SMS Student Competes in Grand Championship Televised Spelling Bee
March 16, 2021
Harrison Mabon made Southern Middle School very proud at the Grand Championship Televised Spelling Bee. Harrison competed in multiple rounds while spelling difficult words such as statistician. Making it to the televised Spelling Bee is a big accomplishment in itself.
In order to qualify for the Grand Championship Spelling Bee, the champions from our school competed against close to 150 other school champions from 10 surrounding counties. They competed in an online spelling and vocabulary test with only 35 students allowed to be in the televised Grand Championship. This year, the competition was held virtually with each contestant spelling from home.
Now the question is, which 6th graders and 7th graders will rise to the occasion to compete in our spelling championship next year?
