SHS Theatre Need of Crew Members

October 27, 2020

SHS Theatre is arguably one of the best ways to spend your time, according to its cast and crew,  so it is surprising how the program is in dire need of more crew members.

They were not able to hold their annual meeting to recruit crew members due to COVID-19.

Sophomore Ali Insley has been a member of the stage crew for 2 years.

“I think if you are a very artistic or creative person, then you would probably like coming to help out,” said Insley.

Senior Kelsey Custer, one of the stage managers, agrees that there are many areas of crew that one can get involved in.

“There’s moving sets, lighting, sounds, props and costumes,” said Custer. “And the people are a lot of fun.”

Time commitment can vary greatly depending on what you do.

Senior Virginia Good has been in costume crew since the spring of 2019.

“[Since COVID-19] we [costume crew] only meet for about 6-9 hours a week, as we are working on a play with a smaller cast,” said Good.

Custer attributes a lot of her knowledge to being in crew.

“It helps learn good life skills,” said Custer. “I probably know more about construction than my dad.”

Many students say that their time spent in crew has been something that they will value for a long time.

“Crew has definitely been one of the best experiences I’ve had in high school,” said Good. “It gave me a purpose when I felt pretty directionless, and I was able to get close to and meet a lot of people I otherwise wouldn’t have.”
